FAQ

What is the “Day” in Joanna Day Photography?

Day is my maiden last name.  I started my business before I got married in 2010 and I decided to not change anything.  My husband’s last name is Fuerst.  Day is an Irish name and I LOVE the Irish side of me.  I totally embrace it!  Fuerst is a German name.

Do you have any formal training?

Yes!  I went to art school at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and I hold a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. I have wanted to be an artist since I was a little girl.  I my love for art started with drawing pictures from my Little Mermaid book.  I will probably always love experimenting with all kinds of art.  But photography is definitely my favorite!  I found photography while I was a senior in high school during an Intro to Photography course.  I loved it instantly.  I borrowed my mom’s friend’s camera that was old and full of light leaks (yes, I learned how to shoot with film and used a darkroom!).  This was back in the day when “vintage” wasn’t as cool as it is now.;)I went on to study graphic design and then later filmmaking.  But photography was always in the back of my mind and for some reason I just felt like it was something that I didn’t want to make a career.  Maybe I felt that I would somehow love it less.  But then it became a yearning, something I had to do and couldn’t do anything else.  I love being a wedding photographer.

Do you provide digital files?  Are these images retouched?

Yes!  I provide digital files with every wedding collection.  These digital files come with a print & sharing release, so this means you can take your digital images and print them at any lab of your choice.  I take special care to narrow down the selection of delivered images to only the best of the best.  This process takes a very long time and includes color correction, exposure correction, cropping, conversion of timeless black & white images, & also my special, artistic look, the look that makes my photography unique.  Any prints, canvases, or albums purchased through Joanna Day Photography will receive extra complimentary enhancements beyond the basic color & exposure corrections that are delivered to you with the digital files.

How many photos will we receive?

I deliver between 75 – 100 images per hour.  I like to focus on quality over quantity & I do not like to overwhelm you with too many images!  So it all depends on the length & details of the wedding.

Do you have any travel fees?

I do not charge for travel within 50 miles of Saint Paul, MN.  After 50 miles I charge $.50/per mile for gas expenses.  If the wedding is over 3 hours away from Saint Paul, travel fees will be applied such as hotel, car rental, airfare, etc.  This is something that we can discuss as every wedding and couple’s needs are different!

How many photographers do you work with?

All packages include coverage by me and a second photographer, my husband Johnny.  Johnny is an equally awesome photographer, he loves focusing on whatever is going on while I am creating authentic portraits.  Johnny’s favorite part of the wedding is the dance when all the fun happens.

What does an engagement session include?

An engagement session is included in most packages.  I consider it essential to creating gorgeous photographs on your wedding day.  An engagement session gives us the chance to get to know each other and you the opportunity to see how I photograph.  All engagement sessions include high resolution digital images with print release and a private online gallery.

Do you do destination weddings?

YES.  I LOVE to travel!   I price destination weddings on a custom basis, so if your wedding is in some super awesome location outside of Minnesota, be sure to contact me for a custom wedding quote!

We are interested, what is the next step?

I typically book weddings 6-12+ months in advance.  If you have a date in mind, please contact me as soon as possible.  To ensure that we are the best fit and to allow you to ask me any questions that you have, I like to schedule an in-person consultation.  A signed contract & non-refundable retainer of 30% will be due in order to book and secure your date.  The final balance is due one month prior to your wedding.
